Lab Bookings Computing Facilities Postgraduate Student In general, postgraduate students will be given access to a computer by their supervisor. If postgraduate students or staff need to use computer labs for their research/study you should discuss your requirements first with your supervisor and then with A/Prof Jie Bao. Unlike undergraduate students, accounts for postgraduate student will only be opened when requested. Postgraduate students should also read the section for staff and visitors for information on connection to the network and notification of problems to the help desk. Undergraduate Student Our school has two computer labs (Room M03 and 713). M03 is available from 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday while 713 is available from 7:00am to 10:00pm Monday to Friday. Both labs are also used for tutorial sessions. These booked sessions take priority over general use. Important - You are advised to read the UNSW Policy on the use of Computing Facilities very carefully. All computers in both computer labs are networked and are members of CEIC domain. In order to use the computers in both labs, you must have an account. An account will be opened for you before session commences. The account will be in the following format: z plus your student ID Your last name will be used as your temporary password. You are required to enter your own password at the first time you logon to the system. Internet access Internet access is provided in the labs for research and teaching purposes only. A daily download limit of 5MB applies to sites outside the University. Use of games or online chat is expressly forbidden. Printing Lab M03 and Lab 713 are both equipped with A3 laser printers. The cost for printing on the laser printers is 10c per page. Each undergraduate student is given a session quota of 150 pages (or $15.00). Additional pages (if required) can be purchased from the school office on level 3, in multiples of $5.00 only. Problems If you encounter any problems with computer hardware/software, please fill in the form "computer problems" on the wall near the door in the lab, so that problems can be solved promptly. You can also contact staff in room M05 or M08 if something needs to be fixed urgently. |
