Removal of Methane from Mine Ventilation Air by Biofiltration
The Particles and Catalysis Research Group (PartCat) is a research group located in the School of Chemical Sciences and Technology at The University of New South Wales. It comprises a diverse team of academics, postdoctoral and postgraduate students who undertake research on particle/catalysis technologies for environmental and energy applications.
The PhD Scholarship is available as part of funding procured from the Australian Coal Association Research Program (ACARP), a funding program developed by the black coal mining sectors of NSW and Queensland and aimed at improving the industry's ability to manage environment and community issues.
The Role: The successful candidate will join the PartCat group, under the guidance of Dr. Jason Scott, based in the School for Chemical Sciences and Technology at The University of New South Wales, Kensington Campus. The research project will focus on developing proposed technology for abating fugitive greenhouse gas emissions from mine ventilation air and will encompass chemistry, engineering and biological disciplines in meeting the project aims. The candidate will develop biofiltration/biocatalysis technologies with the opportunity to work on site at BHP Biliton's Appin mine as part of the technology assessment procedure.

Renumeration: This is a full-time, fixed term scholarship valued at between $25000-30000 tax free for 3-years.
